Nicknames of Female Felons
An investigation of nicknaming among 113 female prisoners showed that nearly two-thirds of the women had a nickname. The nicknames were almost always accorded by family or peer group members, referred to physical or behavioral characteristics or were variations of given names, and were rarely negative. Students' perceptions of teaching innovations in medical school
This research traces medical students’ perceptions of the first year of medical training in an experimental, problem‐based curriculum. The purpose of the study was to ascertain whether their learning experiences differ from what has been reported about perceptions in traditional training programs. Placenames Used as Nicknames
From the beginning of major league baseball, at least 122 players have had nicknames taken from placenames, the majority used in the early twentieth century. These nicknames were of several types and came from many places, mostly the American South. Nicknames and Women Professional Baseball Players
Although women in the general population tend to have fewer nicknames than men, women baseball players in the All-American Girls Baseball League, 1943–1954, were as likely as male baseball players to have public nicknames. This high percentage may be the result of women baseball players taking on the role of nicknamer, since the group in power is more likely to bestow public nicknames and more likely to bestow them on members of their own group. …

In this paper we present findings from a study of pornographic bookstores and sex paraphernalia shops. Our focus was on the Salon and Tack Room, two work settings located in a major U.S. city and catering to the sexual interests of the gay community. This report explores the division of labor by sex in sociology. Using the Guide to Graduate Departments for the years 1975, 1980 and 1985, first-cited specialty areas for all women and a one-fifth sample for men were obtained. Comparison of these specialty areas for women and men suggests that a division of labor by sex exists in sociology. Physical Disability and Problems in Marriage
This study examines the relationship among physical disability, need satisfaction, and marriage satisfaction in 36 couples in which the wife was disabled. A Perception of Needs Scale and a Marital Satisfaction Scale were developed for this project. A Mobility Dimension Scale was adapted from one utilized in previous research.
