  • An Evaluation Study on the Reassembly of Inscribed Stone Pieces in the Grand Egyptian Museum

E Abdel Moneim, M Mansour et al.•ARTICLE•Egyptian Journal of Archaeological…•2024

This research paper presents an applied study of reassembling inscribed stone pieces in the Grand Egyptian Museum. It covered one of the large archaeological limestone blocks divided into three parts. It was carried out in Saqqara excavations from the Kyiri Tomb, which dates back to the Eighteenth dynasty, numbered (1517GEM-CC) in the records of the Grand Egyptian Museum. The study was divided into two parts. First, inspection and analysis were c…

  • Impact of Storage Conditions on Biodeterioration of Ancient Egyptian Child Mummies by Xerophilic Fungi

    M Mansour, Maisa M A Mansour•ARTICLE•Egyptian Journal of Archaeological…•2018

The study was conducted on a child's mummy aged 6 to 8 years, with a damaged skull. It wasfound in Dahshur, Egypt. 10 fungal species were isolated and identified. Fungi have beendetermined by PCR amplification and sequencing as follows: Cladosporium cladosporioides(LC325159), Penicillium chrysogenum (LC325162) and Aspergillus flavus (LC325160). Modernlinen samples were inoculated and incubated by the isolated fungi for a period of three months.Fu…

  • A Study of Biodeterioration and Chromatic Alterations of Painted and Gilded Mummy Cartonnage at the Saqqara Museum Storeroom, Egypt

    Open Access•M F Ali, Maisa M A Mansour et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 35

Microbial biofilms have developed on the surfaces and within the painted and gilded layers of mummy cartonnage at the Saqqara museum storeroom in Giza, Egypt. SEM–EDX, XRD and FT–IR–ATR techniques were applied to analyse the coloured and gilded materials, ground layer, textile support and binder used for the cartonnage. Aspergillus niger (24.8%), Penicillium chrysogenum (21.5%) and a novel cartonnage‐biodegrading bacterium, Bacillus sonorensis (2…

  • Characterization of Historical Bookbinding Leather by Ftir, sem -Edx and Investigation of Fungal Species Isolated From the Leather

    Mansour M, Maisa M A Mansour et al.•ARTICLE•Egyptian Journal of Archaeological…•2017

The aim of the present study was to identify fungi that cause deterioration of historical leatherin the storage room, compare quantitative compounds of elements present in historicalleather and new ones, and check the ability of the isolated fungi from recently leather book tocolonize new leather. The leather binding was evaluated by visual assessment, SEM,isolation and identification of fungi and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). G…

  • Study the Role Played by Fungal Growth in the Deterioration of Lime Mortars, an Example From Tunisia

Abubakr Moussa, Moussa A et al.•ARTICLE•Egyptian Journal of Archaeological…•2012

In this study, mortars from the citadel of Nabeul where studied using XRD in order to identifytheir composition, and where investigated biologically to determine the role played bymicroorganisms in there decay. Calcium carbonate (calcite lime) is the main component ofthe studied mortars; calcium silicate was also detected in addition to quartz and iron oxides. The biological investigation detected some fungal flora amongst: Aspergillus ochraceus,A…

  • Occurrence of Fungi on Some Deteriorated Ancient Egyptian Materials and Their Controlling by Ecofriendly Products

    Mansour M, Maisa M A Mansour et al.•ARTICLE•Egyptian Journal of Archaeological…•2012

Tuna el-Gabel's excavations represent a model of the Egyptian excavation's nature, in terms ofvariations and fluctuations in degrees of humidity and temperature throughout the year. Theexcavations contain various types of antiquities which are made from different organic andinorganic materials belong to different Egyptian eras, especially the Ptolemaic era. Theseconditions have an impact on finding a certain kind of fungus damage, which passively…
