Telehealth as a Care Solution for Homebound People
Homebound individuals residing in community settings with severe health conditions and disabilities could arguably benefit from telehealth interventions. However, the effectiveness of telehealth compared to in‐person care remains underexplored, considering the diversity of these groups. This systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of telehealth in reducing healthcare utilization and improving health‐related quality…
Health System Enablers and Barriers to Continuity of Care for First Nations Peoples Living with Chronic Disease
Health and social care should be harmonised with First Nations Peoples' cultural beliefs and family influences. Sustainable strategies require a co-design commitment for well-funded flexible care plans considering coaching and peer support across the lifespan
Gender Differences in Uptake, Adherence and Experiences
Physical activity referral schemes (PARS) are implemented internationally to increase physical activity (PA), but evidence of effectiveness for population subgroups is equivocal. We examined gender differences for a Scottish PARS. This mixed-methods, concurrent longitudinal study had equal status quantitative and qualitative components. We conducted 348 telephone interviews across three time points (pre-scheme, 12 and 52 weeks). These included va…

Consumers’ perspectives on their involvement in recognizing and responding to patient deterioration—Developing a model for consumer reporting
BACKGROUND: Adverse events occur in health care. Detection and reporting of deterioration therefore have a critical role to play. Patient and family member (consumer) involvement in patient safety has gained powerful support amongst global policymakers. Few studies, with none taking a rigorous qualitative approach, have drawn upon consumers' experiences to establish their preferences in consumer reporting of patient deterioration programmes. OBJE…
Geographical analysis of evaluated chronic disease programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Australian primary health care setting
A greater focus on the evaluation of chronic disease programs for Aboriginal people residing in Inner and Outer Regional areas, and Remote areas of Australia is required. Across all geographical areas further efforts should be made to conduct evaluations in partnership with Aboriginal communities residing in the geographical region of program implementation. The need for more scientifically and ethically rigorous approaches to Aboriginal health p…
Bridging funding gaps for climate and sustainable development
In a world where natural capital is often unpriced or undervalued, thus making resource exploitation very lucrative, environmentally degrading activities will continue to dominate the economy. The past decade has seen a bourgeoning interest in scaling up private investment to address persistent socioeconomic and environmental challenges globally. The recently formulated sustainable development goals and global climate agenda have further heighten…
Interest from Tertiary Educated Persons in Fostering Children with Higher Care Needs under a Professional (Paid) Model Compared with General Foster Care
The number of Australian children requiring foster care due to abuse and neglect is increasing, with more children presenting with high care needs, creating a challenge for the recruitment and retention of foster carers. Carers with higher education recruited as professional foster carers may improve placement stability and outcomes for higher needs children. An e-survey was conducted to explore the level of interest of tertiary students in a pro…
Generating Tailored, Comparative Descriptions with Contextually Appropriate Intonation
Generating responses that take user preferences into account requires adaptation at all levels of the generation process. This article describes a multi-level approach to presenting user-tailored information in spoken dialogues which brings together for the first time multi-attribute decision models, strategic content planning, surface realization that incorporates prosody prediction, and unit selection synthesis that takes the resulting prosodic…
Dividing up Intelligence Education
At this year's annual conference of the International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE) in Monterey, CA, the keynote speaker posed the question, "How much do you need intelligence education outside the beltway?" Which led to a second question discussed during the conference: "What should such education look like?" In short, what should we be teaching in universities? What should we leave to the intelligence community as training? And…

Community Education Counsellors
In every conceivable comparison, the Aborigines and Islanders...stand in stark contrast to the general Australian society, and also to the other 'ethnic' groups...They probably have the highest birthrate, the highest death rate, the worst health and housing, and the lowest educational, occupational, economic, social and legal status of any identifiable section of the Australian population.(National Population Inquiry, Vol.11, 1975, p.455)The stat…

The Role of Guidance and Counselling in Secondary Education for Urban Aboriginal Students
Despite recent developments in Aboriginal education very few Aboriginal high school students in Queensland are in academic courses that will enable them to matriculate with the possibility of entering into tertiary institutions. Instead, the majority of Aboriginal students are in lower level industrial and commercial courses and consequently leave school ill-equipped to enter into a competitive job market. Of those students who do find employment…

Self-consciousness
Aggressiveness and Military Training
The conflict over the expression of aggressiveness in wartime America is described. Five ex-soldiers are presented as examples of men who adjusted poorly in training camps for that reason. Although their psychiatric histories and the results of psychological studies show great variability in apparent aggressiveness, nevertheless, all the examples had strong evidence of inhibitions, frustation, and conflict both in regard to aggressiveness itself …
Value of civilian psychiatric consultation for Army university cadets
The personality of a psychotic ex-soldier
The case study of a schizoid ex-soldier is presented to illustrate the integration of interview data and test findings. Five of the tests emphasize the projective methods of personality study. Responses during the tests are interpreted, as are the psychiatric findings that reveal the course of the maladjustment. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
