    Theon of Alexandria was a Greek geometer and astronomer who lived in Alexandria in the fourth century ce . Of his life, we know almost nothing, except that he was the father of Hypatia, the famous feminist philosopher who was murdered in 415 by the Christian crowd, during a riot in Alexandria.

    Le livre V du Commentaire à l'Almageste de Théon d'Alexandrie (ca 364 p. C.) était considéré comme perdu à l'exception de quelques chapitres. L'auteur a retrouvé la presque totalité du Livre V en marge de l'Almageste dans le Vaticanus gr. 198. L'article donne la liste des chapitres et analyse l'exemple du calcul de la longitude de la Lune pris le 5 janvier 323 p. C

    Le Vat. gr. 1 90 (IXe siècle) est un manuscrit très important pour l'histoire de l'astronomie grecque : ancêtre unique de toute la tradition manuscrite conservée du Grand Commentaire de Théon d'Alexandrie aux Tables Faciles de Ptolémée, il contient des scolies d'Apamée (Syrie), écrites en 462 de notre ère, et marque ainsi un précieux jalon dans la transmission de l'astronomie grecque vers l'Orient
