Health insurance coverage among persons with Aids
To determine factors associated with health insurance coverage among persons with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), we interviewed 1958 persons 18 years of age or older who were reported to have AIDS in 11 states and cities. Overall, 25% had no insurance, 55% had public insurance, and 20% had private insurance. Factors associated with lack of insurance varied by current employment status. Swimming-associated cryptosporidiosis
In July and August 1988, an outbreak of gastroenteritis affected 44 of 60 (73%) persons from 5 separate swimming groups who had used the same swimming pool in Los Angeles. Cryptosporidium was identified in 5 of 8 (63%) stool specimens, and the clinical picture was consistent with Cryptosporidium infection.
