It investigates why athletes and trainers who faced pressure on performance gave-up match-fixing opportunities, while they have adopted age faking. Stratifying lifestyle and social class in urban China
This study adopts Bourdieu’s relational analytical strategy to investigate the relation between lifestyle and social stratification in the Chinese urban population. Multiple correspondence analysis and clustering illuminate a typology of four lifestyles: (1) disengagement from consumer culture, (2) self-restrained consumption of highbrow products, (3) preference for intellectualized and ephemeral leisure activities, and (4) economically and cultu…
Precariousness on the Green
By analyzing a national survey and with ethnographic observations, this article sheds light on the precarious working conditions of Chinese golf trainers. We argue that due to the adequacy of income package, certainty about the continuity of employment, control over labor process, and effectiveness of labor market regulation, golf trainers face more uncertainty than other workers with a similar social background (age and cultural capital).
