The experience and sociocultural context of torture and its treatment have received little attention in the biopsychosocial model of Western mental health for survivors of torture. Specific attention is given to the role of paradox, group process, and the cognitive-developmental level of the child in the construction of an effective reframing intervention. Applications and limitations of reframing are discussed
