Exploring the nexus of self-efficacy in digital literacy and technology acceptance
This study explores the extent to which L2 Chinese teachers (Teachers of Chinese as a Second or Foreign Language) embrace and integrate technology into their teaching practices, and how their self-efficacy in digital literacy (referred to as L2CDL) influences their acceptance of technology. It extended the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by adding L2CDL as a key factor that influences teachers’ perceptions and behaviours regarding technology us…

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into language education, teachers' responses to AI‐integrated teaching deserve closer attention. Guided by Self‐Determination Theory, this study employed an explanatory sequential mixed methods design to examine how Chinese university EFL teachers' basic psychological need profiles were associated with their AI use, perceived school support, and perceived professional roles. In the quantitative phase, survey …

What Can Children Learn from a Free Trial of Eyeglasses Use? Evidence from a Cluster‐Randomized Controlled Trial in Rural China
Free trial is a widely used business strategy that takes advantage of information asymmetry. However, evidence on what we can learn and how rapidly we can learn from a free trial of health care is limited. This study evaluates the effect of a free trial of eyeglasses on children’s 8 items of perception related to eyeglasses use. An evaluation was conducted alongside a cluster-randomized controlled trial involved 832 myopic children from northwest…
Paradoxical Impact of a Patient-Handling Intervention on Injury Rate Disparity Among Hospital Workers
Objectives. To test whether a comprehensive safe patient-handling intervention, which successfully reduced overall injury rates among hospital workers in a prior study, was differentially effective for higher-wage workers (nurses) versus low-wage workers (patient care associates [PCAs]). Methods. Data were from a cohort of nurses and PCAs at 2 large hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts. One hospital received the intervention in 2013; the other did …
Fake Happiness
In China, an emerging psycho-politics seeks to extract value from and to govern the potential of individual citizens. The party state attempts to preempt social unrest by encouraging the poor and the unemployed to engage in psychological self-help to unlock their positive potential. Television counseling programs promoting the cultivation of happiness are part of these attempts. These programs showcase marginalized people who appear happy despite…
