  • To Follow or Not to Follow

Open Access•Yu Wang, Jiebo Luo et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the International…•2021

In this paper, we analyze the growth patterns of Donald Trump's followers (Trumpists, henceforth) on Twitter. We first construct a random walk model with a time trend to study the growth trend and the effects of public debates. We then analyze the relationship between Trump's activity on Twitter and the growth of his followers. Thirdly, we analyze the effects of such controversial events as calling for Muslim ban and his ‘schlonged' remark

  • Term Limits in State Legislatures

John Carey, John M Carey et al.•BOOK•Term Limits in State Legislatures•2000

It has been predicted that term limits in state legislatures--soon to be in effect in eighteen states--will first affect the composition of the legislatures, next the behavior of legislators, and finally legislatures as institutions. The term-limit movement--designed to limit the maximum …

  • The Two Faces of Tactical Voting

    Open Access•Mark N Franklin, Mark Franklin et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Political…•1994•Cited by: 36•References: 6

In a recent Note we investigated the incidence of tactical voting in the British election of 1987. A major hypothesis was that in situations where it made sense (i.e., in which voters preferred a party that was a long way from contention, so that a vote for that party was likely to be ‘wasted’), tactical voting would be much more frequent than had hitherto been assumed. We discovered that this was indeed the case; in what we called ‘objectively t…

  • People Who Live in Glass Houses

    Open Access•Richard G Niemi, Richard Niemi et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Political…•1993•Cited by: 14•References: 2

In a recent Research Note, Evans and Heath cast doubt on the validity of our measure of tactical voting. We and our critics agree on a set of ‘Main reason’ tactical voters – those who said they voted tactically in response to the question, ‘What comes closest to the main reason you voted the way you did?’ Unlike our critics, we reasoned that many of those who cast a tactical vote would not be identified so simply. Some respondents may have been r…
