Evaluación Y Transparencia De Las Desigualdades en Salud en El Sistema Sanitario Catalán: Una Plataforma Interactiva
The harmful side of humour: The case of humourist Anónimo García against the Spanish judicial system (and against common sense, too)
Humour studies have paid some attention to the risky nature of the professional activity of satirists in non-democratic societies, where legal censorship and political persecution are prevalent. Moreover, a growing number of studies has recently focused on the legal adjudication of satire in democratic societies, where freedom of expression through satirical humour can sometimes conflict with other equally important rights. Since it is not easy t…
Meritocracia
The secessionist referéndum of 1980 and 1995 in Quebec (Canada) and 2014 in Scotland (Great Britain) are milestones that allow observing a phenomenon little studied in the political theory of the modern democratic State: the idea of a State that democratically accepts its divisibility. Far from being considered a weakness, the central thesis of this text will be to analyze the benefits and advantages that offer such a resilient conception of this…
The Spanish Plurinational Labyrinth. Practical Reasons for Criticising the Nationalist Bias of Others While Ignoring One’s Own Nationalist Position
To analyse the Spanish national question requires considering the relationship between the idea of the nation and the phenomenon of nationalism on one side, and the question of political plurality on the other. The approval of the Constitutional text 40 years ago was achieved thanks to a delicate semantic balancing act concerning the concept of nation, whose interpretation remains open. Academic studies of public opinion, such as the famous Linz-…

Sobre trilemas y trileros. Por qué la ideología es cosa de tres y las emociones ayudan a gestionar las distintas opciones sobre la idea de igualdad
Political ideology is often analyzed around the dichotomy of the left-right distinction. This rational and simplified way of ordering the different ideological alternatives to political action has a series of implicit presuppositions that, in an increasingly evident way, generates more problems than solutions when it comes to understanding how ideology really works in modern societies. In opposition to this dichotomous, exclusionary and reduction…
Can ethnic humour appreciation be influenced by political reasons? A comparative study of the Basque Country and Calalonia
The aim of this paper is to compare the appreciation of humor that a sample of citizens in Spain has expressed about two different types of ethnic humor produced by two successful television programs from two autonomous communities in Spain: the Basque Country and Catalonia. Both regions are well-known in the Spanish society for their specific cultural and political features, which are seen as different from the rest of the country. To some exten…
Time trend and age-period-cohort effects on gastric cancer incidence in Zaragoza and Navarre, Spain
STUDY OBJECTIVE: To describe time trends in gastric cancer incidence in Zaragoza and Navarre, and to investigate time period and birth cohort as determinants of such trends. DESIGN: Cases from two registries were grouped into five year intervals and the following were calculated: age specific and sex specific incidence rates, and the male to female ratio. Log linear models including age, period of diagnosis, and birth cohort were fitted. SETTING:…
Spanish version of the Nottingham Health Profile: Translation and preliminary validity
We report the transfer into Spanish of a multi-dimensional measure of perceived health originally developed in Great Britain, the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), and an assessment of the preliminary validity of the version is presented. Translation of the questionnaire was obtained from experts and from a Spanish monolingual lay group. Construct validity of the version was assessed in two studies: testing relationship of NHP scores to other self…
