  • The Middle Paleolithic Complexes of the Chagyrskaya Cave

Open Access•K Kolobova, Magdalena Krajcarz et al.•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2018

Chagyrskaya cave is a key-site of the Middle Paleolithic Sibiryachikha Facies in Gorny Altai. During the field season of 2018, field work was focused upon the central chamber; the total excavation square was two square meters. The cultural layers of Chagyrskaya cave have yielded new numerous assemblages of stone artefacts, paleontological and paleoanthropological materials. The study area is characterized by a high degree of carnivore activity. D…

  • Towards a Chronology of the Jerzmanowician—a New Series of Radiocarbon Dates from Nietoperzowa Cave (Poland)

    Open Access•M T Krajcarz, M Krajcarz et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2018•Cited by: 13•References: 48

The period around 50 000–35 000 years ago constitutes one of the most debated research issues in European archaeology of the Palaeolithic. In this time period, the transition from the Middle to the Upper Palaeolithic took place. Locally, in different areas of Europe, this shift is recorded in so‐called transitional assemblages. The eastern fringe of these transitional assemblages is represented by the Jerzmanowician, the unit described on the bas…

  • On the Trail of the Oldest Domestic Cat in Poland. An Insight from Morphometry, Ancient DNA and Radiocarbon Dating

    Open Access•M Krajcarz, D Makowiecki et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 16

It is believed on the basis of archaeozoological research that the domestic cat appeared in Central Europe during the Roman Period. In Poland, the domestic cat is a common species in medieval deposits. Only a few finds of cat remains of pre-medieval age have been reported from Poland to date, including several specimens from deposits older than the Roman Period, dated to the pre-Roman Period and even the Bronze Age. To clarify the earliest histor…
