Open Access•Martial Monteil, Nicolas Coquet et al.•ARTICLE•Gallia•2023

Gallia a 80 ans.

  • The Laà 2 cave in Arudy (64). The Mesolithic and Final Neolithic occupations within their chrono-cultural contexts

Open Access•Patrice Dumontier, Patrice Courtaud et al.•ARTICLE•Gallia préhistoire•2022

. Due to the important number of archaeological sites studied therein, the Arudy basin is a favored place for seeking improved understanding of settlement dynamics and cultural characteristics of the populations that occupied these sites since the Paleolithic. In this case, the Mesolithic and Final Neolithic archaeological levels of room 5 of the Laà 2 cave will be analyzed and then inserted within the larger context of the Béarn valleys, as well…

  • The spread of Cinglais flint during the Neolithic

    Open Access•François Charraud, Laurent Juhel et al.•ARTICLE•Gallia préhistoire•2022•References: 36

Cinglais flint originates from the jurassic plains of Normandy. Since the Early Neolithic, it was used in blade production and was identified within mines and habitats near flint outcroppings. This article focuses on the distribution of these laminar products and considers a variety of criteria: the aim is to determine its geographical confines and chrono-cultural contexts, as well as to specify the economic, technical and functional modalities o…

  • A Tale of Two Taphonomies

    Open Access•Emma Maines•ARTICLE•Sources•2021

The Kadruka concession represents an area of study grouping together a large number of funerary (as well as habitat) sites located in Upper Nubia in modern day Sudan. Five of these sites (KDK1, KDK2, KDK18, KDK21 and KDK23) served as the basis for a doctoral thesis that provided a new perspective on the identity and practices of these populations. These results are part of a larger and ongoing project, which aims to expand our understanding of th…

    Open Access•Damien Pesesse, Emma Maines•ARTICLE•Gallia préhistoire•2021•References: 114

  • Survival kit for the afterlife or instruction manual for prehistorians? Staging artefact production in Middle Neolithic cemetery Kadruka 23, Upper Nubia, Sudan

Open Access•Hala Alarashi, Lionel Gourichon et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 5

The burials at the Neolithic cemetery Kadruka 23 in Sudan have yielded adornments and bone and lithic artefacts that occur as distinct stages of the chaîne opératoire. This article reports on a hitherto unrecognised funerary practice that highlights the importance of craftsmanship for Neolithic communities in life and beyond
