  • Richardson Processes and Arms Transfers, 1971-1980

    Open Access•Richard W Chadwick•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•1986•Cited by: 4•References: 34

Arms transfers to Asian countries seem to effect an increase in military expenditures of their neighbors. An examination of Australia, US and USSR military expenditure patterns for 1971-80 in an Asian con text indicates sensitivity to arms transfers and US 'containment policy' in Asian countries. Analyses of other Asian countries (from Afghanistan to Japan) lead to similar conclusions. Lewis Fry Richardson's theory is employed in a manner which a…

  • A Partial Model of National Political-Economic Systems

    Open Access•Richard W Chadwick•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•1970•Cited by: 1

This paper applies a combination of factor analysis and causal inference techniques to refine a partial model of national political systems and international behavior. The model, which is a revision and extension of one used as 'background assumptions' in an Inter-Nation Simulation at Northwestern University (1960), contains such variables as international trade and agreements (both military and economic), national economic and military capabilit…
