  • Legislative Norms in Eleven States

    This is a study of legislative norms, based on mail questionnaires sent to U.S. state senators in 11 states. Of the 19 fixed-choice items on the questionnaire, 13 were accepted in some of the states and 4 were accepted in at least 10. The roles most widely accepted were mostly proscriptive and interpersonal in nature, suggesting that they are tapping behavioral norms present in society at large. The number of norms accepted in each senate ranges …
