This study examines interactions between full-time members and web traffic across 137 Mexican online media platforms, as cataloged by Sembramedia in May 2023, focusing on the number of technological platforms and the type of interactivity involved. We used descriptive analyses and a structural equation model to test our hypotheses. Findings highlight the crucial role of human-to-content interactivity in shaping online media design and significant…

As secondary objectives, we seek to identify trends in the interface design of the selected media outlets. Lastly, this research aims to compare the levels of interaction…

Caught in the Middle
With 33 journalists killed since the beginning of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s presidential term in December 2018, Mexico heads the list of the most violent countries for journalists in Latin America—and that of countries not at war. While journalist organizations demand a meaningful protection apparatus to safeguard their physical safety, official corruption, and criminal impunity continue to escalate the pressures to which media staff are expo…
Unidos o fragmentados?
The image of the father in Downton Abbey
The British television series Downton Abbey (directed by Julian Fellowes) could be considered a media phenomenon without precedent. Since its release in 2010 and throughout its six seasons, it reached a global audience in over 220 countries. At a time when the father figure is dissolving, fading, or missing in the content of television series, the worldwide success of Downton Abbey features the image of Lord Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville), Earl…
Reportear bajo amenaza
How Do Journalists in Mexico Report on Organised Crime
Among the many outcomes of the so-called War on Drugs, Mexico has become one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalism. Besides killings and kidnappings, journalists are also frequent victims of beatings, arbitrary detentions, and online harassment, as well as many other acts of aggression. Anti-press violence has an evident impact on Mexican journalists’ daily activities, particularly as related to the coverage of organised cri…
