Capitalism in its pre-war form has been a historic, but not an inevitable, accompaniment of democracy. The doctrine that morality and economic self-interest necessarily concide must be abandoned. Not organized business, but the people as consumers and citizens, can solve the problems of unemployment and inequality and determine the economic and hence the moral basis of reconstructed society

Dr. Whyte's article on the settlement house role in its community has so many apt parallels to the situation in the United States Indian Service, that I thought it would be valuable to point out the similarities. I will make the statements here in terms of the Indian Service, although the stimulation comes from what Whyte states for the settlement house. This paper discusses the implications of a total cultural approach for what is termed "education," especially for peoples of an alien cultural background. It treats the effects on the individual of the education imposed by his own culture, and of one foreign to his culture, discussing the pertinence of these findings for action programs in the education of culturally alien peoples

This paper discusses the implications of a total cultural approach for what is termed "education," especially for peoples of an alien cultural background. It treats the effects on the individual of the education imposed by his own culture, and of one foreign to his culture, discussing the pertinence of these findings for action programs in the education of culturally alien peoples
