  • Love as the Warp and Weft of Creation

    Open Access•Hina Khalid•ARTICLE•Open Theology•2025

In this article, I explore in a comparative key the theological aesthetics of the celebrated poets Muhammad Iqbal (1877–1938) and Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941). For both figures, I argue, human artistry reflects as well as instantiates the primordial divine creativity. I begin by exploring the foundational metaphysics of Iqbal and Tagore, wherein the finite world stands as a shimmering sign of the inexhaustible infinite. Within this cosmic tape…

Open Access•Rida Walayat Niazi, Madiha Khalid et al.•ARTICLE•PAKISTAN LANGUAGES AND HUMANITIES…•2024

Motivation for reading in English literature is multifaceted. In Pakistani context, a large part of curriculum consists of English literature. The students are motivated to read in English literature for not only success but also for numerous reasons. Therefore, this qualitative case study has been conducted among Six (6) Graduate students of Majoring English Literature of National College of Business Administration and Economics (NCBA&E) Lahore.…

  • Income-Nutrition Gradient and Intrahousehold Allocation in Rural Pakistan

Open Access•Haseeb Ahmed, Hina Khalid•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2023

We find that increase in income is associated with an increase in child weight-for-age and weight-for-height z-scores, and reduction in the likelihood of a child being underweight or wasted. However, our results suggest that these gains associated with an increase in income are greater for male children as compared to female children. These differences in income-nutrition gradient can be explained by the gender-differences in consumption of healt…

  • A Community Health Worker–Based Intervention on Anthropometric Outcomes of Children Aged 3 to 21 Months in Urban Pakistan, 2019–2021

Abu S Shonchoy, Abu Shonchoy et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2023•References: 22

Objectives. To evaluate the impact of a community health worker–based “in-home growth monitoring with counseling” (IHGMC) intervention on anthropometric outcomes in Pakistan, where 38% of children younger than 5 years are stunted. Methods. We used an individual, single-blind, step-wedge randomized controlled trial and a pure control group recruited at endline. We based the analysis on an intention-to-treat estimation using the coarsened exact mat…

  • Responding to the Call of God

Hina Khalid•ARTICLE•Journal of Islamic and Muslim…•2023

This article explores several thematic synergies across Hindu and Muslim devotional sensibilities through an analysis of selected songs from two influential Bengali poet-thinkers: Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) and Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899–1976). This study offers an exploratory engagement with these songs in the form of new translations from the original Bengali and reflections that suggest fertile theological parallels between their verses. Thr…

  • Fear, accessibility, and legitimacy

    Open Access•Amira Jadoon, Hina Khalid•ARTICLE•Conflict Management and Peace…•2022•References: 15

How does political violence affect public health risks? While past research provides useful insights, it remains unclear how the effect of violence on health risks varies by perpetrator identity, target, and the intensity of attacks. We argue that indiscriminate attacks by militants will discourage civilians from accessing healthcare services. In contrast, clashes between militants and governments are likely to induce state actors to augment heal…

  • Document analysis in health policy research

    Open Access•Sarah L Dalglish, Hina Khalid et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2021•Cited by: 18•References: 19

Document analysis is one of the most commonly used and powerful methods in health policy research. While existing qualitative research manuals offer direction for conducting document analysis, there has been little specific discussion about how to use this method to understand and analyse health policy. Drawing on guidance from other disciplines and our own research experience, we present a systematic approach for document analysis in health poli…

  • The Feminization of Love and the Indwelling of God

    Open Access•Apratim Barua, Hina Khalid•ARTICLE•Religions•2020•References: 40

Our essay is a thematic exploration of the malleability of idioms, imageries, and affectivities of Hindu bhakti across the borderlines of certain Indic worldviews. We highlight the theological motif of the feminine-feminised quest of the seeker (virahiṇī) for her divine beloved in some Hindu expressions shaped by the paradigmatic scriptural text Bhāgavata-purāṇa and in some Punjabi Sufi articulations of the transcendent God's innermost presence t…

  • Relationship between network operators and risky sex behaviors among female versus transgender commercial sex workers in Pakistan

Hina Khalid, Erika G Martins et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2019

Unprotected sex among commercial sex workers (CSWs) remains a leading cause of HIV transmission internationally. Previous research on condom use among CSWs has focused on females, with limited research among transgenders or on the role of network operators who mediate paid sexual transactions. We test whether network operators increase the likelihood of condom use among female and transgender CSWs in four Pakistan provinces using the 2011 Integra…

  • Global aid for nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions and proportion of stunted children across low- and middle-income countries

Open Access•Hina Khalid, Sitara Gill et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 49

Development assistance for health (DAH) has increased dramatically over the past two decades, and this increase has led to a debate on the benefits and perverse effects of scaling-up vs scaling back DAH, and the type of interventions DAH should support. Nutrition remains a contested category viewed as essential to achieving primary healthcare objectives but as falling outside of the direct ambit of the health system. Thus, despite the increase in…

  • The Governance of Public Pensions

    Open Access•David S T Matkin, Gang Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Administration & Society•2019•References: 23

Prior studies of public pensions emphasize the effect of the political economy on the performance of pension systems. We argue that this approach overlooks important institutional features of pension governance and fails to account for endogenous, indirect, and lagged effects. In this article, we describe those limitations and develop an institutional framework to explain the complexity of public pension governance. We identify and discuss critic…

Arthur M Fox, Ashley M Fox et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 17

Objectives. To examine the relationship between adolescent pregnancy–prevention and sexuality and abstinence-only education funding and adolescent birthrates over time. Also, to determine whether state ideology plays a moderating role on adolescent reproductive health, that is, whether the funding has its intended effect at reducing the number of adolescent births in conservative but not in liberal states. Methods. We modeled time-series data on …

  • A Comparative Study of Augustine's De Trinitate and Ghazali's Kitab al-mahabba on Human Knowledge of and Love for God

W ithin the framework of the Islamic and Christian traditions, the "grammar of divinity" 1 at once seeks to affirm intimate relation with a personal God and secure the ontological distinction between Creator and created.Any attempt to construct an account of the human-divine relationship thereby intersects with reflection on divine transcendence and immanence: given that God cannot be rendered another category among worldly categories, how does o…

  • Collaborative capital budgeting in U.S. local government

    Open Access•Hina Khalid, David S T Matkin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Budgeting…•2017

This article explores collaborative capital budgeting in U.S. local governments. To date, the capital budgeting literature has focused on practices within individual governments. This leaves a gap in our understanding because a large portion of capital planning, acquisition, and maintenance occurs through collaboration between two or more local governments. Drawing on the capital budgeting and collaborative public management literature, and on il…
