    Open Access•Olav Hovdelien, Helje Kringlebotn Sødal•ARTICLE•Religions•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 12

According to the legal framework, religion forms a certain part of Norwegian early childhood education in publicly owned kindergartens. • «Barnehagen er ingen søndagsskole …»

Open Access•Olav Hovdelien, Helje Kringlebotn Sødal•ARTICLE•Prismet•2021

    Olav Hovdelien•ARTICLE•Journal of Intercultural Studies•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 8

In most Western countries, a compulsory education system plays a key role in societal integration. This article discusses how the Norwegian model of education, its values base and religious education, contribute to integration in the broad sense. Approximately 98 per cent of all children between the ages of six and sixteen participate in a common, compulsory and public course of education regulated by a curriculum approved by the parliament. Both…

  • The limitations of multiculturalism in Norwegian early childhood education

    Olav Hovdelien•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 1

In Norway, 9 out of 10 children between the ages of one and five participate in an educational formation programme which, despite around half of the kindergartens being privately owned, is regulated by a common law and relatively detailed regulations describing what the content of kindergartens should be. Norwegian kindergartens therefore represent a central institution for integration and transfer of values and morals in today's multicultural No…
