I arrived as a graduate student at the University of Illinois in the fall of 1961, joining the relatively new Department of Anthropology under the direction of Joseph B. Casagrande. Stigma, Self-Esteem, and Depression: Psycho-Social Responses to Risk of Aids
AIDS creates a new source of stigma and affects the entire spectrum of a PWA's (person with AIDS) social being, both his family and peer relationships. This paper is divided into two parts.
