  • Seasonal Exploitation of Migratory Waterfowl at Natufian el‐Wad Terrace, Mount Carmel, Israel

    Open Access•Linda Amos, Mina Weinstein-Evron et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Increased avian exploitation is a hallmark of broad‐spectrum subsistence strategies in the Levantine Natufian culture (15,000–11,700 cal. BP). However, detailed publications of bird remains from the Natufian are scant, especially regarding the Early Natufian, and the available evidence shows high inter‐site variability that begs explanation. In this study, we examine the avian remains from the Natufian sequence of el‐Wad Terrace, a large hamlet o…

  • Soil‐Geomorphology and Micromorphology of a Natufian Depositional Record at El‐Wad Terrace, Mount Carmel, Israel

    Open Access•Alexander Tsatskin, R Yeshurun et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 28

The Natufian sequence at the site of el‐Wad Terrace (EWT) shows a complex depositional record derived from intertwined soil‐geomorphic and human processes. In order to identify site formation processes at EWT, we analyzed gravel composition, its distribution within the stratigraphic sequence, and micromorphology of both fine‐grained material and gravel rims. The fine deposits within the EWT sequence are magnetically enhanced anthropogenic sedimen…

  • Geophysical investigations in the El‐Wad Cave, MT. Carmel, Israel

    Open Access•Mina Weinstein-Evron, Mina Weinstein‐Evron et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•1991•References: 2

Measurements of the thickness of the sediment fill in the el‐Wad Cave, Mt. Carmel, Israel were carried out using seismic refraction methods. The cave is one of the famous Mt. Carmel Caves, where finds of Mousterian to Natufian prehistoric cultures had been encountered. The survey discovered a series of karstic pits in several chambers in the cave, with good correlation between the dimension of the chambers and the thickness of the sediment fill. …
