  • Connecting the Atlantic-sector and the north Pacific (Mt Logan) ice core stable isotope records during the Holocene

    Open Access•David Fisher, David A Fisher•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2011•References: 2

The δ( 18 O) Holocene of the Mt Logan ice core is very different from those of eastern Arctic Canada and Greenland. The large changes seen in Logan dwarf even the largest change (the cooling event 8200 years ago) in the Atlantic-sector cores. Large changes in Logan’s δ( 18 O) and d are related to the state of El Niño as reflected by the Quelccaya δ( 18 O) series. It is found that the lagged auto-difference series of the ice core records from the …

  • High-resolution multiproxy climatic records from ice cores, tree-rings, corals and documentary sources using eigenvector techniques and maps

    Open Access•David Fisher, David A Fisher•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2002•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Palaeotemperature sensitive series from tree-rings, ice cores, corals and documentary sources are combined to producepalaeo summer-temperaturereconstructions (AD 1970-1761)and geographical eigenvector (EOF) maps in both hemispheres. They are compared favourably to those of existing summer-temperature average series. There are 51 palaeoseries in the Northern Hemisphere (mostly north of 40° N) and 16 series in the Southern Hemisphere. The statistic…

  • A Holocene Record of Atmospheric Dust Deposition on the Penny Ice Cap, Baffin Island, Canada

    Open Access•Christian Zdanowicz, Christian M Zdanowicz et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2000

An >11,550-yr-long record of atmospheric dust deposition was developed from an ice core (P95) drilled through the Penny ice cap, Baffin Island. The P95 record documents environmental changes that affected the production and transport of dust in the eastern Canadian Arctic during the late Pleistocene and Holocene. Dust deposition on the Penny ice cap was greatest in late-glacial time when the climate was dry and windy and comparatively low in the …

  • A Holocene Ice-Core Pollen Record from Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada

    Open Access•Jocelyne Bourgeois, Jocelyne C Bourgeois et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2000

A Holocene record of pollen deposition was obtained from an ice core drilled through the Agassiz Ice Cap. The pollen records long-range atmospheric transport to the ice cap. Pollen concentrations were highest in the early Holocene (∼15 grains/L), decreased in the mid-Holocene (∼6 grains/L), and increased in the late Holocene (∼9 grains/L). In the early Holocene, the higher concentration of tree pollen at a time when large parts of Canada were sti…

  • Solid electrical conductivity (ECM) from four Agassiz ice cores, Ellesmere Island NWT, Canada

    Open Access•Jiancheng Zheng, Akira Kudo et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1998•References: 2

The solid DC electrical conductivity (ECM – Electrical Conductivity Method) of polar ice cores has become an important tool in identifying and quantifying volcanic acid layers, and this paper addresses the question of how much signal and noise there is in single ECM series. A number of high-resolution (10 samples/year) ice-core ECM records from the Agassiz Ice Cap are correlated over the last 900 years. Corre lations decrease with distance apart …

  • Holocene climatic records from Agassiz Ice Cap, Ellesmere Island, NWT, Canada

    Open Access•David Fisher, David A Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1995•Cited by: 5•References: 1

Four ice cores from the top of the Agassiz Ice Cap and down a flow line have been variously analysed for 8 ( 18 O), ECM (solid conductivity) and ice-melt layer stratigraphy. Stratigraphic correlation of volcanic horizons is used to date the last 8000 years of the cores. The timescales at the Wisconsin/ Holocene transition are pinned at the new GRIP ice-core date. Both 8 and summer-melt records from cores A84 and A87 imply summer temperatures have…

  • Signal and noise in four ice-core records from the Agassiz Ice Cap, Ellesmere Island, Canada

    Open Access•David Fisher, David A Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1994•Cited by: 3

Four ice cores and two deep pit/auger sequences from the top of the Agassiz Ice Cap have been variously analysed for δ(O 18 ), ECM (solid conductivity) and ice melt-layer stratigraphy. The high- resolution data are presented on time scales covering about the last 1000 years. The 8 time series are compared and the noise examined in terms of snow-drifting and wind-scouring of winter snow from the higher exposed parts of flow lines. The highly scour…

  • Comparison of 10 5 Years of Oxygen Isotope and Insoluble Impurity Profiles from the Devon Island and Camp Century Ice Cores

    Open Access•David Fisher, David A Fisher•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1979

Oxygen-isotope profiles for the Devon Island ice cap and Camp Century Greenland are affected by a number of variables, some of which must have been the same for both sites. The two δ( 18 O) records spanning about 120,000 years are brought into relative alignment by comparison of major δ features, and subsequent verification that the insoluble particulate concentration records were also in phase for this alignment. The difference between the δ pro…
