  • Early Biblical Fundamentalism’s Xenophobic Rejection of the Subject in European Philosophy: How Rejecting the Knowing Subject Formed Fundamentalism’s Way of Thinking

    Open Access•Matthew C Ogilvie•ARTICLE•Religions•2024

This article is part of a wider project that addresses gaps in the scholarly knowledge of the philosophical and theological foundations of the Biblical Fundamentalism that originated in North America. Through exploring the relevant literature, including primary sources from within Fundamentalism, the article examines the anti-European sentiment in early Fundamentalism and how this sentiment led to a rejection of philosophical values associated wi…

  • Material Wealth or Wealth of Time and Culture? Lessons from Australian Aboriginal Economy for Catholic Social Teaching

    Open Access•Matthew C Ogilvie•ARTICLE•Religions•2024•References: 9

This paper will explicate ways in which Aboriginal Australian economy can inform, augment, and vindicate Catholic social teaching and related scholarship on work, the use of technology, and leisure. Collaterally, Aboriginal Australian economy gives an example of what could happen if key parts of Catholic social teaching were to be implemented concretely. That is, we can argue that Aboriginal economy gives an indication of what a society would be …

  • Private Politics in the Garden of England

    Matthew C Ogilvie•ARTICLE•Contention•2017•References: 8

This article analyses an atypical case of anti-wind farm contention at Marden in south-east England. Anti-wind farm campaigns have typically sought to resist developments through planning institutions. Though focusing on planning, the Marden case successfully pursued a ‘private politics’ strategy, pressuring businesses (e.g. developer, investors and landowner) to withdraw their support and commitment. Drawing on 10 semi-structured interviews with…

  • Occupy: In Theory and Practice

    David W Bates, Matthew C Ogilvie et al.•ARTICLE•Critical Discourse Studies•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 7

This paper situates the discourse of the Occupy movement within the context of radical political philosophy. Our analysis takes place on two levels. First, we conduct an empirical analysis of the ‘official’ publications of Occupy Wall Street (OWS) and Occupy London (OL). Operationalising core concepts from the framing perspective within social movement theory, we provide a descriptive-comparative analysis of the ‘collective action frames’ of OWS …

  • The impact of local campaigns against wind energy developments

    Matthew C Ogilvie, Matthew Ogilvie et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Politics•2015•Cited by: 8•References: 28

Many scholars have emphasised community resistance to locally sited wind energy schemes in their explanations of wind power planning outcomes and deployment rates, while others have questioned the impact of local objectors. To illuminate ways in which local protestors attempt to influence decisions over the siting of wind turbines, and the efficacy of their efforts, four cases of anti-windfarm protest in England are compared. Local protestors emp…
