    This article focuses on the talèdhèk, Javanese female street singer-dancers of the gamelan tradition, during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Their life circumstances were very different from those of the later gamelan singers, the pesindhèn. So were their vocal styles. It is likely that these are connected.
