Developmental Influences in Pictorial Depth Perception among Hong Kong Chinese Children
A developmental model is presented relating to the expected age trends in the acquisition of Three-Dimensional Pictorial Perception (3DPPI as well as related sex differences. The Hong Kong Chinese data support the expected increase in 3DPP with ages from three to seventeen and the expected male 3DPP superiority after age eight, thought to stem from increased testosterone output from that age, stimulating the development of the cholinergic inhibit…
Developmental Influences on Geometric Illusion Susceptibility among Hong Kong Chinese Children
Hong Kong Chinese developmental results are presented to test cross-cultural developmental theories relating to changes in illusion susceptibility with age. The Muller-Lyer (M-L) and Sander-Parallelogram (S-P) illusion data confirm the expected decrease with age from 3-12 (Walter, 1942), and the later increase to age 21 due to exposure to a more sophisticated environment (Wapner and Werner, 1957).
