    A representative sample of independent cultures was carefully chosen to check cross-cultural correlates of drinking and the folk-tale themes associated with it. Analysis of the folk-tales was carried out by the computer-based General Inquirer System which coded the content according to some 88 tags of which 14 yielded significant correlations with drinking.
