  • The Role of Telework for Productivity During and Post Covid-19

Open Access•Chiara Criscuolo, Péter Gál et al.•ARTICLE•Economie et Statistique /…•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 6

Measurements and perceptions of growth are often contrasting and, indeed, GDP growth does not necessarily imply an economic improvement that is felt by the population. In order to quantify this difference, we are developing an indicator of monetary well-being called "Real Feel GDP", which measures, in a money metric, the national average contribution of income to life satisfaction. It offers a retrospective view that is very different from that m…

  • Economic Adjustment during the Great Recession

Gilbert Cette, Jimmy Lopez et al.•REPORT•National Bureau of Economic…•2020

This study investigates empirically how managerial practices have affected macroeconomic adjustment during the Great Recession after the 2008 economic crisis. We start by constructing a country*industry balanced panel data over the 2007-2015 period for eighteen industries in ten OECD countries, and complementing it by two indicators: an indicator of management quality at the country level based on the managerial practices categorical scores at fi…

  • Do Product Market Regulations in Upstream Sectors Curb Productivity Growth? Panel Data Evidence For OECD Countries

Renaud Bourlès, Gilbert Cette et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2012

We identify the impact of intermediate goods markets imperfections on productivity downstream. Our empirical specification is based on a model of multifactor productivity (MFP) growth in which the effects of upstream competition can vary with distance to frontier. This model is estimated on a panel of fifteen OECD countries and twenty industries over 1985 to 2007. Competitive pressures are proxied with industry product market regulation data. We …

  • Employment Effects of Product and Labour Market Reforms

    Open Access•Giuseppe Fiori, Giuseppe Nicoletti et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2012•Cited by: 5•References: 25

This article investigates the effect of product market liberalisation on employment allowing for interactions between policies and institutions in product and labour markets. Using panel data for OECD countries over the period 19802002, we present evidence that product market deregulation is more effective at the margin when labour market regulation is high. The data also suggest that product market liberalisation may promote employment-enhancing…

  • Do Product Market Regulations in Upstream Sectors Curb Productivity Growth? Panel Data Evidence for OECD Countries

Renaud Bourlès, Gilbert Cette et al.•REPORT•National Bureau of Economic…•2010

Based on an endogenous growth model, we show that intermediate goods markets imperfections can curb incentives to improve productivity downstream. We confirm such prediction by estimating a model of multifactor productivity growth in which the effects of upstream competition vary with distance to frontier on a panel of 15 OECD countries and 20 sectors over 1985-2007. Competitive pressures are proxied with sectoral product market regulation data. …

  • Regulation, productivity and growth

    Open Access•Giuseppe Nicoletti, Stefano Scarpetta•ARTICLE•Economic Policy•2003

Liberalization and privatization have made the regulatory environment more market-friendly throughout the OECD. However using a large new dataset on product market regulation, we show that regulatory policies in OECD nations have become more dissimilar in relative terms, even as all nations have liberalized. This seemingly contradictory finding is explained by different starting points and different reform speeds. Our data also show that this div…

  • Welfare and Employment in a United Europe

Giuseppe Bertola, Tito Boeri et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Welfare and Employment in a…•2001

Welfare and Employment in a United Europe takes a nuanced approach to the issues. Unusual for an edited volume, it consists of two long studies—each written by a group of economists working in four different countries of the European Union—followed by commentary. Over the last twenty years, fifteen Western European nations have removed most barriers to trade and migration, as well as most forms of national discrimination in economic and social ex…
