Open Access•Adimoolam Chandrasekar, S Yaseen Saheb et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2007

A total of 2169 samples from 21 tribal populations from different regions of India were scanned for the Y-chromosome Alu polymorphism. This study reports, for the first time, high frequencies (8-65%) of Y Alu polymorphic (YAP) insertion in northeast Indian tribes. All seven Jarawa samples from the Andaman and Nicobar islands had the YAP insertion, in conformity with an earlier study of Andaman Islanders. One isolated case with haplotype E* was fo…

  • Tasting Ability of Phenyl-Thio-Carbamide (PTC) Among Koraga Tribe of Karnataka

Open Access•A Chandra Sekar, Ashok Sekar et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1998•References: 1

The Koraga, a tribal group of Karnataka had been studied to determine PTC taste ability. The percentage of tasters and non-tasters are 87 per cent and 13 per cent. respectively. The incidence of T and t gene are 64 per cent and 36 per cent. respectively. The average heterozygosity for PTC taste sensitivity gene is 0.4588 among the Koraga

  • Opportunity of Natural Selection Among the Koraga Tribe of Karnataka

Open Access•A Chandra Sekar, Ashok Sekar et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1998•References: 2

Among the Koraga tribe of Kanataka. Crow’s index of opportunity of Selection (I) is 0.336. This is the lowest value reported so far tribal populations of India. Mortality Component (Im) is (0.075) also the lowest value among the Koraga. Koraga have a mean live births of 3.97. The percentage of fertility component is more than 3 times to that of mortality component. Thus natural selection operates with low intensity through differential fertility …
