Der Pharao und sein Staat. Die Grundlegung der agyptischen Koningsideologie im 4. und 3. Jahrtausend
Ancient Egyptian Kingship
This volume is the collaborative effort of several Egyptological scholars from the United States, Canada, Egypt and England. Each contribution is an investigation of a specific aspect of kingship in ancient Egypt and represents a particular area of expertise of that author. The first part of the book examines the nature of kingship and the role of the ruler. The second part focuses on the role of kingship and its characterization in particular pe…
The Egyptian Text on the Seal Impression from Alalakh (Tell Atchana)

An Early Eighteenth Dynasty Monument of Sipair from Saqqara
An Early Eighteenth Dynasty Monument of Sipair from Saqqâra
The monument discussed here may have been the pedestal of a stela, but is only recorded in copies made by Hay and Wilkinson early in the last century (a small fragment which used to be in Berlin is now lost). Sipair was an ‘Overseer of the treasury’, probably under Amosis. His presumed tomb at Saqqâra would be the earliest New-Kingdom tomb known in the area. One of Sipair's epithets refers to chariotry, and the hieroglyph used in it is the earlie…

Alice Lieder, the wife of the Revd J. R. T. Lieder, visited Memphis, and made squeezes of the inscriptions on thirteen statues lying there, in May 1853. Most of the sculptures had been found by Hekekyan in 1852. They included a fragment of a statue of Ramesses III, and one of a colossus of Ramesses VI, a statue of the vizier Paser, a statue of Khaemwese, and a standard-bearing statue of Ramesses II. The previous identifications of the last as Ram…
