  • Heartbeat recordings in music therapy bereavement care following suicide

    Open Access•Claire Ghetti, Brian Schreck et al.•ARTICLE•Action Research•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 5

Bereavement services incorporating family-centered practices are emerging within hospital-based care but are often time-limited and lack personalization. This action research single case study explored one father’s experience of music therapy using amplified cardiopulmonary recordings (ACPR) during bereavement following his son’s death by suicide, to critique current norms and inspire transformative change in systems of care. As co-researchers, a…

  • Music therapy spanning from Nicu to home

Open Access•Shulamit Epstein, Cochavit Elefant et al.•ARTICLE•Nordisk Tidsskrift for Musikkterapi•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 47

Introduction Music therapy (MT) is a part of standard care in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in many countries, and in some countries is provided as a post-discharge service as well. However, it is rare that preterm families are offered continuous MT services from birth through their first months at home. Affiliated with a recent longitudinal, controlled trial of MT for parent-infant bonding and an associated qualitative study exploring liv…

  • Music Therapy Intervention in an Open Bay Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Room Is Associated with Less Noise and Higher Signal to Noise Ratios

Open Access•Shmuel Arnon, Shulamit Epstein et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

Integrating MT modalities such as IMT and EMT in an open bay NICU room helps reduce noise. Both MT modalities resulted in higher SNR compared to the control room, which may indicate that they are meaningful for the neurodevelopment of preterm infants

  • The LongSTEP approach

Open Access•Tora Söderström Gaden, Claire Ghetti et al.•ARTICLE•Nordisk Tidsskrift for Musikkterapi•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 92

Introduction Despite medical advances, preterm birth and neonatal intensive care (NICU) hospitalization are demanding and pose risks for infants and parents. Various music therapy (MT) models have suggested parental singing to promote healthy bonding and development in premature infants, but evidence on long-term effects is lacking.Method We present the theoretical framework and intervention protocol of a resource-oriented MT approach for prematu…

  • The crisis of the unacknowledged context

    Claire Ghetti•ARTICLE•Nordisk Tidsskrift for Musikkterapi•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Without context, a piece of information is just a dot. It floats in your brain with a lot of other dots and doesn’t mean a damn thing. Knowledge is information-in-context - connecting the dots

  • Analysing and exploring practice

Claire Ghetti, Claire M Ghetti•ARTICLE•Nordisk Tidsskrift for Musikkterapi•2016

Background: Children and adults experiencing hospitalization may undergo a myriad of anxiety-provoking and painful medical procedures, which may carry traumatic impact. Music therapy as procedural support may be defined as the use of music and aspects of the therapeutic relationship to promote healthy coping and decrease distress in individuals undergoing medical procedures. Methods: This session describes a working model of music therapy as proce…

  • Music therapy as procedural support for invasive medical procedures

    Claire Ghetti, Claire M Ghetti•ARTICLE•Nordisk Tidsskrift for Musikkterapi•2012•Cited by: 6•References: 31

In partial response to the demand for evidence-based practice, there is an increasing interest in the use of music therapy as procedural support for both invasive and non-invasive medical procedures. Clinicians and researchers are attempting to define how music therapy functions as procedural support in order to advance clinical practice and research, but concepts remain inadequately specified in the literature. The current philosophical inquiry …
