A quadrangular axe made of banded flint from Berezka, Solina Commune, Lesko district, Podkarpackie Voivodeship
The quadrangular, fully polished axe, made of banded flint, from Berezka, Solina Commune, Lesko district, bears a resemblance in shape, manufacturing technique, and material to axes associated with the Globular Amphora culture. It was discovered accidentally as a loose find. No other finds from this culture were recorded in its vicinity. It represents evidence of the penetration of the Globular Amphora culture population, or it could have been pr…
Settlement base of the Neolithic banded flint mines in Krzemionki Opatowskie – an outline of the issues
The analysis of the Middle and Late Neolithic settlement pattern confirms the thesis of the significant role of the middle Kamienna river basin in the region of the Sandomierz Upland and the Iłża Forehills as the settlement base for banded flint mines in the area of Krzemionki Opatowskie. Some of the settlements of the Funnel Beaker culture located in the northern and central part of the Sandomierz Upland could be related to exploitation and proc…
Unique construction of a megalithic tomb from Stryczowice, Świętokrzyskie Voivodship
The cemetery of the Funnel Beaker culture at Stryczowice is situated in the Sandomierz Upland region. Three megalithic tombs and a flat cemetery were discovered and examined. The most well-preserved tomb is about 30 m long, and its plan has a trapezoidal shape. Its stone settings formed a kind of dry-stone wall – a phenomenon on a European scale. In the front part of this tomb, a central grave has been examined, consisting of two stone chests – o…

Interest of Jan Kowalczyk in the Mining of Flint Raw Materials
Jan Kowalczyk exhibited great interest in the issues related to the prehistoric acquisition of flint raw materials and their working. He was involved in research and conservation issues at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s in the Neolithic and Early Bronze mines of banded flint in Krzemionki Opatowskie, exploited by communities of the Funnel Beaker, Globular Amphorae and Mierzanowice cultures. In 1967 and 1970 he was an inspirer and co-participant …
Znalezisko siekier krzemiennych z Klementowic (Płaskowyż Nałęczowski) – dylemat z afiliacją kulturową
The subject of the study is a collective find of three axes discovered in 1964 during excavation research at the multicultural site VII in Klementowice, Kurów commune, Puławy dis¬trict, Lublin voivodship, in the north-western part of the Nałęczów Plateau. Two artefacts (with quadrilateral section and bifacial) are made of banded flint and one (with quadrilateral section) – of Świeciechów flint. These raw materials come from deposits exploited in …
Possibilities of investigating Neolithic flint economies, as exemplified by the banded flint economy
There is a relatively large amount of evidence helpful in reconstructing the economies of Neolithic farming communities. Material relating to flint processing is only one kind of evidence among many, but analyses of the exploitation of this raw material may provide particularly valuable information (Balcer 1988: 49–51). The flint economy provides unique insights into the processes of the division of labour and emergence of distinct groups of prod…
