Police Training in Modern Russia
This paper describes the many-layered training system of the modern-day Russian Militia. Special emphasis is placed upon the Training Centers, Special Secondary Schools for Training, High Schools of the Militia, and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. To place this training apparatus in perspective the recruitment process and staffing problems of the police are discussed
Prisons and Prisoners in Contemporary Spain
This study is a result of two research visits and tours of Spanish prisons in 1987 and 1989. As in previous articles, the authors address the question of what differences does it make on the criminal justice system when a country goes from a dictatorship to a democracy. The Legal Culture and Legal System in Post-Franco Spain
With the death of Francisco Franco in 1975, Spain went from a dictatorship to a democracy. What difference did such a change of government and ideology make to the criminal justice system in general and to the legal system in particular? Francisco Franco's death in 1975 ended nearly forty years of fascist dictatorship in Spain. In the next decade the country underwent substantial and dramatic change: The political structure was democratized under King Juan Carlos. In the last forty years Egypt has experienced mandated dependency to England, an oppressive “foreign” monarchy, a popular nationalistic military coup, and a quasi socialistic revolution.
