The past decade has witnessed a rise in the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Union Corporate Campaigns
The authors examine 28 labor disputes occurring during the period 1976-88 in which the unions involved publicly declared they conducted "corporate campaigns." They distinguish three types of campaigns -complements to traditional organizing drives, complements to strikes, and substitutes for strikes-and argue that fundamental differences among these campaigns result in different prospects for success. This paper examines the determinants of National Labor Relations Board certification election outcomes in individual election units between 1972 and 1980. Particular emphasis is given to the role of national union characteristics in determining union success or failure.
