  • Якутская лексика в живой речи современных тундровых юкагиров

    Open Access•Samona N Kurilova•ARTICLE•ORIENTAL STUDIES•2025

Introduction. Like in many other cultures, the historically multicultural and multilingual environment entails that the oral speech of modern Yukaghirs tends to comprise native and foreign-language material, which is required by the moment and necessary for language development. Despite the small number of speakers, the centuries-old lexical system experiences constant changes manifested in its own and borrowed resources, through oral and book-wr…

    Open Access•Samona N Kurilova•ARTICLE•Nauchnyi Dialog•2023

Their speech can be characterized as mixed, including spontaneous code-switching within and between utterances. Our goal is to provide the first description of one of the common cases of code-switching — repetition. It…

Samona N Kurilova, Ирена Семеновна Хохолова et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Borealia•2023•References: 5

We examine the historical toponymic system of the Russian Far North in the context of folklore traditions of Indigenous peoples of the North. Our methodology is narrative analysis, aimed at identifying the semantic features of toponyms, whose origins lie in traditional legends and tales. We treat toponyms as geocultural codes, which provide not only ethnocultural data but also geographic and spatial information. We present shared patterns in the …
