  • The endostructural pattern of a middle pleistocene human femoral diaphysis from the Karain E site (Southern Anatolia, Turkey)

Open Access•T Chevalier, Kadriye Özçelik et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2015•Cited by: 10•References: 61

The endostructural signature of Karain could indicate a similar biomechanical strain system to that of Neanderthals that could be linked to body shape. However, the presence of posteromedial reinforcement in Berg Aukas may point to an ancestral feature and may be independent of latitude. A larger comparative sample should further clarify the taxonomical, biomechanical, and chrono-ecogeographical origins of the structural femoral features observed…

Open Access•M Otte, Işın Yalçınkaya et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•1995•Cited by: 15•References: 4

Late and Epi-Palaeolithic sequences are well known from field work and publications in southeast Europe and the Levant. Current research in Anatolia promises to shed new light on the vast region that connects these two areas. At Öküzini cave a detailed sequence of Terminal Pleistocene and Early Holocene assemblages contributes greatly to our understanding

  • The Anatolian Middle Paleolithic

M Otte, Işın Yalçınkaya et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Anthropological Research•1995•Cited by: 6

The aims of this report are threefold: (1) to provide new information concerning the Lower and Middle Paleolithic of southern Turkey, (2) to present the shifts in lithic techniques evident in the sequence of Karain Cave during these periods, and (3) to demonstrate the significance of the new information for interpreting long-distance relations between Western Asia and Europe. In fact, in spite of the crucial geographic situation of Anatolia betwe…

The following is a preliminary account of the recent excavations at Karain Cave (Turkey). The top of the sequence contains Epipalaeolithic industries that appear to be disturbed. Below these are various Mousterian levels containing prepared hearths, and which rest on a calcitic crust dated to approximately 120,000 BP. Beneath this crust, and continuing for about twelve more metres, are more industries which are very rich and of Middle Paleolithic…

  • Réévaluation du matériel des couches supérieures de la grotte de Karain (Antalya, Turquie)

    Angela Minzoni-Déroche, Angela Minzoni‐déroche et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1985•Cited by: 1

Francis Hours, J-M Le Tensorer et al.•ARTICLE•Paléorient•1983•Cited by: 7•References: 2

The oasis of El Kowm, with the sixty Palaeolithic sites located in the basin, gives an exceptional opportunity of following in details the evolution of the late Acheulian and the transition towards the Middle Palaeolithic. A sounding in the spring mound of Nadaouiyeh I suggests the possibility of a typological gradual change from the late Acheulian to a final one. Four superposed living floors, apparently well preserved, exist in the surroundings…
