  • Sex diff erences in Late Iron Age Northeast Estonia as indicated in dental pathologies and enamel hypoplasia

    Open Access•Jana Limbo•ARTICLE•Papers on Anthropology•2019•Citada por: 1

Study of dental pathologies is important in investigating the health and diets of past populations. Dental pathologies of adult peoples show nutritional and hygienic habits in adulthood, but childhood metabolic stresses can be observed in the occurrence of linear enamel hypoplasia (LEH). Dental hard tissue pathologies (caries, pre mortem tooth loss, abscesses, calculus, reduction of alveolar bone, molar attrition) and LEH were observed over 15 ye…

  • The frequency and pattern of dental caries in archaeological populations from Estonia

    Open Access•Jana Limbo•ARTICLE•Papers on Anthropology•2013

The caries rate is an important indicator of dental health but also provides a lot of information about dietary habits and the lifestyle of past populations. To understand dietary changes, it is important to observe both the primary location and the severity of caries lesions. In the present study the prevalence, location and severity of caries lesions were recorded on 5,838 teeth of six skeletal populations from Estonia, from the Migration Period…

  • The tooth size in the end of the Estonian Iron Age

    Open Access•Jana Limbo•ARTICLE•Papers on Anthropology•2012

Mesiodistal (MD) and buccolingual (BL) crown diameters of all observable permanent teeth were measured in four skeleton series from the Iron End Estonia, total of 254 individuals. Teeth sizes in the End of the Estonian Iron Age were typical of Northern Caucasoids who are mesodontic. All the teeth in the observed group were larger than in the historical skulls from Southern Lithuania and smaller than in historical skulls from Northern Finland. As …
