This paper presents the analysis of materials from a grave in the Zhartas burial ground belonging to the Sargary-Aleksyevka culture, located in the north-eastern Kazakh low hills (Saryarka) in the middle reaches of the Shiderty River. The funerary rite and associated artifacts find analogies among culturally similar sites in Central Kazakhstan, which are part of the cultural community of roller ceramics. According to paleoanthropological analysis…

  • Technology of vessel making of the Early Bronze Age from the Chemar 5 and Chemar 7 settlements (East Kazakhstan)

    Open Access•Z Rakhimzhanova, K Merts et al.•ARTICLE•Kazakhstan Archeology•2025

Open Access•I V Merts,

K Merts et al.•ARTICLE•Kazakhstan Archeology•2024

  • New Finds of Metal Tools of the Late Bronze Age in the Upper Tobol Region

Open Access•Emma Usmanova, Ilya V Merts et al.•ARTICLE•Povolzhskaya Arkheologiya (The…•2024

The article presents an analysis of two accidental finds in the area of the villages of Novoilyinovka and Alchanovka (Kostanay oblast, Kazakhstan). The “Alchanovka” sickle belongs to the products of the Sosnovo-Mazino type, but differs by its zigzag ornament. The high iron content indicates the use of copper-pyrite ores as the raw material dating the sickle to the 14th–13th centuries BC and associate it with the Sargary-Alekseyevka culture. The “…
