  • Distribution of archaeological material along the ancient Tsondab River through the Namib Sand Sea, Namibia

Open Access•Dominic Stratford, George Leader et al.•ARTICLE•L Anthropologie•2026

  • Adriatic Explorations

Claire Manen, Thomas P Leppard et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Mediterranean…•2026

Neolithization is one of a handful of major social and economic processes that affected the entire Mediterranean, even if in quite different ways across different periods and regions. Everywhere, however, its impact was substantial, affecting also other parts of Europe and West Asia. It is therefore with good reason that the study of Neolithization has a long and distinguished track-record going back, at least, to the work of Childe, who first ch…

  • The Mesolithic-Neolithic Transition in the Northern Adriatic

Samuele Ongaro, Fraser Sturt et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Mediterranean…•2026

This paper investigates the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition in the northern Adriatic by testing theoretical models of Neolithization through a review of the available radiocarbon evidence. While our understanding of the spread of farming in Europe has improved significantly in recent years, especially due to an increasing body of ancient DNA evidence, this does not seem to be the case for the northern Adriatic. Here, not only is there a lack of a…

  • Revisiting the Acheulean at Namib IV in the Namib Desert, Namibia

George M Leader, Rachel Bynoe et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 29

Namib IV (S23° 44.829’, E14° 19.720’) is frequently cited, as it is one of few Earlier Stone Age sites in the Sand Sea of the Namib Desert. The site was first investigated in 1978 by Myra Shackley, who described 582 artifacts on the surface of a pan as representing an Acheulean butchery site. Descriptions of the artifacts, their number, and area were inconsistently reported. Recently rediscovered, the site of Namib IV is a rare example of a tool-…

  • Mid-Late Quaternary Fluvial Archives near the Margin of the MIS 12 Glaciation in Southern East Anglia, UK

Open Access•Peter Allen, Peter M Allen et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2022

This paper presents an updated geological reconstruction of the Quaternary evolution of the River Thames at its downstream extremities, close to the North Sea coast, based on new data from multi-disciplinary and citizen-science sources. In this area, the interaction of the Thames with the MIS 12 (Anglian) glaciation is an important part of the Quaternary archive. The Anglian ice sheet, which reached parts of north and east London, was responsible…
