Open Access•Sabine Sczesny, Christa Nater et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Women Quarterly•2025•Cited by: 2•References: 14

Gender rules, that is, prescriptive and proscriptive gender stereotypes, dictate how women and men should and should not be, and thereby perpetuate the gender hierarchy that privileges men over women. Across seven nations that span the continuum of gender equality, we investigated gender status norms by identifying the extent to which gender rules correspond with social status beliefs. Open Access•Natasza Kosakowska‐berezecka, Jennifer K Bosson et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychological and…•2023

Significantly more women (63.0%) than men (51.0%) experienced at least one incident of sexual aggression victimization since the age of 15 years, and significantly mor…

  • Psychometric Properties and Correlates of Precarious Manhood Beliefs in 62 Nations

Open Access•Jennifer K Bosson, Paweł Jurek et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2021

Precarious manhood beliefs portray manhood, relative to womanhood, as a social status that is hard to earn, easy to lose, and proven via public action. Here, we present cross-cultural data on a brief measure of precarious manhood beliefs (the Precarious Manhood Beliefs scale [PMB]) that covaries meaningfully with other cross-culturally validated gender ideologies and with country-level indices of gender equality and human development. Using data …
