    Open Access•Sally A Hutchinson, Sally Hutchinson et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2002•Cited by: 11•References: 22

Because clear instructions for interviewing men about their developing procreative identities do not exist, the authors discuss a variety of methodological issues that surfaced during in-depth interviews with young men about relationships, sex, contraception, pregnancy, and fatherhood. The authors interviewed a diverse sample of 50 single male participants, ages 16 to 30, who had dated at least one woman in the past 3 years (or had been married).…

Using a purposive sample of 37 single men aged 16 to 30, in-depth face-to-face interviews, and a grounded theory approach, we explore males' subjective experiences as procreative beings. We examine (a) the social, organizational, and cultural contexts for fathering, (b) fathers' social capital contributions, (c) th…

  • Political Identities and Political Landscapes: Men's Narrative Work in Relation to Women's Issues

    Open Access•Mark Cohan•ARTICLE•Sociological Quarterly•1997•Cited by: 2•References: 11

This article presents case studies of two men who have a history of political activism on “women's” issues. The aim of my analysis is to describe the interpretive practice (Gubrium and Holstein 1994) through which the respondents construct individual political identities that make sense of their activism. The analysis treats identity as a narrative construction and also demonstrates that the context of this identity work is itself a construction.…
