  • Reprezentacja przez sztukę, czyli wakacyjne muzeum etnograficzne

    Open Access•Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•Konteksty Polska Sztuka Ludowa•2024•References: 1

  • Co-crafting the Meaning of Potter’s Craft

    Open Access•Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•Ethnologia Fennica•2024

The article is based on ethnography and the autoethnography of making. It presents an anthropological reflection on pottery craft as a way of life in a 21st-century village in Poland. The individual case of a village pottery shop in the region of Masuria is in focus, a place located in the north of the country. The exchange of knowledge and a participatory mode characterised the ethnographic enterprise. The author’s approach combines critical ref…

  • Proces projektowy” – o podzielaniu doświadczenia społecznego

    Open Access•Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•Stan Rzeczy•2023

„Nie możemy doświadczyć świata z perspektywy innych, możemy jednak podzielać ich doświadczenie społeczne” – napisała duńska antropolożka Kirsten Hastrup. Z perspektywy własnej obecności w polu dizajnu, która wiąże się z podzielaniem doświadczenia społecznego projektantów na różne sposoby, chciałabym zaproponować fenomenologiczną refleksję nad „procesem projektowym”. Jako antropolożka i etnografka łączę działalność badawczą z pracą dydaktyczną na …

  • Etnodizajn and Folkstar Souvenirs

    Open Access•Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•Acta Ethnographica Hungarica•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 2

The present paper offers a critical reflection on folk inspirations in Polish design in the early 21st century. It discusses the question of folk as an artistic form, pointing to conceptualizations of folk style and its formal qualities within the field of modern artistic production to which design and craft practices belong. It also touches on the role of the rural actors involved in the processes of the construction of folklore and their attitu…

  • Etnodizajn a ludowość w polskim wzornictwie

    Open Access•Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•Artium Quaestiones•2021

In the first decade of the 2000s, a new wave of “folk inspirations” became visible in the work of Polish designers, which was celebrated by exhibitions, publications, conferences and a special festival. Interestingly, all the Polish-language coverage of these events almost unanimously avoided Polish vocabulary suggesting any connection with “folk” (n.: lud, adj.: ludowy) and used the English-sounding term “etnodizajn” (or “ethnodesign”), which ac…

  • The Craft of Factory Labor

    Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•Journal of American Folklore•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 10

Ceramics can be art, craft, and industrial production. Several stages of industrial production processes resulting in a porcelain item we buy in a shop require what can easily be called "craft." Drawing on my ongoing research project in a porcelain factory in Ćmielów, Poland, I focus on the skills and embodied knowledge of the workers. In this article, I ground my interpretation of factory work in Malafouris' Material Engagement Theory and the kn…

  • Mētis – wiedza asystemowa

    Open Access•Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•Teksty Drugie•2017

Given the intellectual legacy of the Aristotelian distinction and hierarchization between practical and theoretical knowledge and the Cartesian dualism in the Western cognitive tradition, the non-discursive knowledge of the body has not raised much interest in modern science and philosophy. From the perspective of ethnography as research through practice, however, the role that the body’s non-discursive knowledge plays in anthropological understa…

  • Constructing a 'monument of national history and culture' in Poland

    Ewa Klekot•ARTICLE•International Journal of Heritage…•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 4

The substantial destruction of Warsaw during World War II led to important reconstruction works, which from the beginning were involved in an interplay of various political agendas and various conservation ideologies. The architectonic shape of the reconstructed Royal Castle, as well as the design of its interiors, were shaped through power struggles that were informed by two main sets of values: one referred to the legitimising (or questioning) …
