This article examines representations of Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamid II in the French press. Analyzing these representations will help one to better understand the Western perceptions of the Ottoman Empire and the Orient. This study is based on the analysis of selected French newspapers such as L'Illustration, Le Journal Illustré, Le Monde Illustré, L'Univers Illustré and Le Petit Journal, as well as other secondary sources (articles and books).
