Linking parents' work pressure and adolescents' well being: Insights into dynamics in dual earner families
This study focused on the connections between mothers' and fathers' work pressure and the psychological adjustment of their older (M = 15 years) and younger (M = 12.5 years) adolescent offspring in a sample of 190 dual-earner families. Structural equation models revealed that the effects of work pressure on adolescent well-being were mediated by parental role overload and parent-adolescent conflict. Work-family linkages were similar for mothers a…
Treating the Dyad as the Unit of Analysis: A Primer on Three Analytic Approaches
This article reviews three analytic approaches for treating the dyad as the unit of analysis. These approaches are useful for the specific, but quite common, situation in which researchers have information from or about two members of a dyad. Three approaches are described: intraclass correlations as a measure of similarity, repeated measures analysis of variance, and hierarchical linear modeling. All three approaches are used to analyze the same…
The development of children's moral sensibility: Individual differences and emotion understanding
Developmental changes and individual differences in children's conceptions of transgressions were studied in 46 children in their kindergarten and 1st-grade years; the children had previously been studied with their mothers and siblings as 2- and 3-year-olds. Differences in responses to moral transgressions in kindergarten were related to mothers' control management and to siblings' friendly behavior in the preschool period, early understanding o…
