  • Christian Revelation as a Phenomenon: Jean-Luc Marion's Phenomenological "Theology" and Its Balthasarian Roots

    Open Access•Beáta Tóth•ARTICLE•Religions•2024•Cited by: 2•References: 3

This essay examines Jean-Luc Marion's phenomenal model of the Trinity expounded in his recent book D'Ailleurs, la révélation (2020) and attempts to give an initial assessment from a theological perspective. Since Marion's programme is largely indebted to the Roman Catholic theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar's own project, first I give an overview of the Balthasarian phenomenal approach to revelation famously termed "aesthetic theology". Next, I pr…

  • Knowledge of the Heart: Notes on the Definition of the Sensus Fidei in the Personal Life of the Believer

    Open Access•Beáta Tóth•ARTICLE•New Blackfriars•2023

The sensus fidei is a crucial concept which has assumed growing importance during recent years of theological enquiry, however, it is not so easily defined. This article examines a section of the document. Sensus Fidei in the Life of the Church. (ITC, 2014, Chapter 2, no. 48-65) and explores the underlying anthropological-epistemological assumptions which seem to be inherently shaping the idea of the sensus fidei fidelis (the sense of faith of th…

  • Divine and Human Love in the Philosophy of Miklos Vetö (1936‐2020)

    Open Access•Beáta Tóth•ARTICLE•Modern Theology•2023

During recent decades there has been an upsurge of studies exploring the nature and conditions of human love. This article examines an original and consciously Christian approach by the Hungarian‐French philosopher, Miklós Vetö, who builds his innovative account of love on trinitarian foundations ( Court traité sur l'amour , L'Harmattan, 2020). His ‘expanded’ metaphysics lays bare the theological content of philosophical assumptions, and it also …

  • Human Speech and God's Word: On a Latent Divine Attribute

    Open Access•Beáta Tóth•ARTICLE•New Blackfriars•2020

The idea that God speaks to humans and responds to their call is often taken for granted in the Judeo-Christian tradition. This paper reflects on the significance of the fact that God is Deus loquens : one who speaks in revelation and who is also inner Trinitarian eternal utterance. To outline an anthropology and a theology of speech, two Hungarian interlocutors are summoned: twentieth century poet János Pilinszky (1921-1981) and exegete and lite…

  • Love Between Embodiment and Spirituality: J ean‐ L uc M arion and J ohn P aul II on Erotic Love

    Open Access•Beáta Tóth•ARTICLE•Modern Theology•2013

While theological discourse on love traditionally bifurcates between love as a body‐bound passion and its superior and disembodied spiritual counterpart, a growing number of accounts have recently challenged the traditional division arguing for the fundamental unity of the phenomenon of love. Could such a dichotomy be overcome if one reversed the conventional hierarchy between bodily erotic and intellectual agapeic love and made erotic love betwe…

  • Nearby Nature and Experiential Farming: How are their Roles Perceived within the Rural–Urban Fringe

Reija Hietala, Harri Silvennoinen et al.•ARTICLE•Landscape Research•2013•References: 20

This paper presents the preferences of residents towards green areas and, in particular, for agricultural environments in Vantaa City, southern Finland. The study area includes three growing suburbs and farming land immediately adjacent to the city centre. During the study period, new residential areas in the fringe area, combined with a simultaneous build-up of the road network, resulted in fragmentation and increased land use diversity. We foun…
