  • Time-of-Day Electricity Consumption Response to Temperature and the Ownership of Air Conditioning Appliances

Lee A Lillard, Dennis J Aigner•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•1984

This article is concerned with the endogeneity of air conditioning appliance ownership in the consumption of electricity by time of day (TOD). Both TOD consumption and air conditioning appliance ownership depend on temperature level and on household responsiveness to temperature variation, as well as on other measured household characteristics. The article presents an appropriate econometric methodology and applies it to obtain estimates and perf…

  • Measuring Peak Load Pricing Response From Experimental Data

Dennis J Aigner, Lee A Lillard•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•1984

Beginning in March 1979 and continuing for 24 months, approximately 480 Southern California Edison (SCE) residential customers faced time-of-use (TOU) rates for electricity. These sample households were spread over three temperature zones and five consumption levels, and faced two definitions of the peak (off-peak) period and four peak/off-peak price ratios. To supply a reference case for subsequent comparisons to SCE's current domestic rate, a s…

  • Latent Variables in Socio-Economic Models

    F C Pampel, Fred Pampel et al.•ARTICLE•Contemporary Sociology A Journal…•1978

  • Formulation and estimation of stochastic frontier production function models

Open Access•Dennis J Aigner, Dennis Aigner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Econometrics•1977

  • Statistical Theories of Discrimination in Labor Markets

    Open Access•Dennis J Aigner, Glen G Cain•ARTICLE•Industrial and Labor Relations…•1977•Cited by: 202

Examines economic discrimination in labor markets using a stochastic model. Analysis of several types of economic discrimination within the context of competitive market assumptions; Empirical plausibility and implications of the alternative models of economic discrimination; Role of statistical theories in the explanation of labor market discrimination. (Abstract copyright EBSCO.)

  • Simulation and Aggregation

Dennis J Aigner, Stephen M Goldfeld•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•1973

  • Safety Margins and Profit Maximization in the Theory of the Firm

    Richard H Day, Dennis J Aigner et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Economy•1971•Cited by: 1•References: 1

In this paper we explore various criteria for risky decision making and examine the relationship among these rules, full cost pricing, and safety margin maximization. The three rules are alternative versions of the "safety-first" principle; each is concerned with expected profits and with the probability of loss. Since the probability of loss can be identified with the firm's margin of safety, these rules can be viewed as alternative ways of maki…

  • A Comment on Problems in Making Inferences from the Coleman Report

    Dennis J Aigner•ARTICLE•American Sociological Review•1970•Cited by: 2

tool as an aid in the prior process of search for causally relevant variables in a state of knowledge where the structure of the processes relating them is not fully known. With this latter approach, that statistical tool is only one such aid in the search: inferences from the differences at different grade levels are valuable; examination of withinand between-school components of variance is also valuable, and even examination of marginal distri…
