From colonial times the Georgia settlers had been engaged in an almost incessant struggle against the savages on her border, and had the insti…

“This Evil Extends Especially…To The Feminine Sex”
Late in the summer of 1760, a large Comanche raiding party besieged the fortified home of Pablo Villalpando in the village of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. After a daylong fight, the Comanches breached the walls and killed most of the male defenders. Whether of Spanish or Indian origin, two factors are essential to people&s;s understanding of the captive experience in greater New Mexico and perhaps to similar cases in other periods and regions. Crime Compensation Programs an Opinion Survey of Program Administrators
Compensating Victims of Crime
In 1963 and 1964, New Zealand and Great Britain adopted the first modern crime compensation programs. These programs compensate for injury and death caused by a criminal attack upon an innocent victim. Although the reception given to these programs has been quite favorable and there have been additional adoptions by other jurisdictions, the total number of program adoptions remains small. New Jersey's adoption in October, 1971, brought the total …
