  • Making a Home, Keeping God Close

Open Access•Nienke Groskamp, Carolina Ivanescu•ARTICLE•Journal of Religion Media and…•2024

In Evangelical Christian communities, the responsibility for maintaining the home is taken up primarily by women (Bartkowski, 1999; Gallagher & Smith, 1999). The discursive construction of the home as a sacred space free from toxic influences emerged during the Cold War, when the global turmoil seemed to demand the delineation of a matriarchal safe space (Shively, 2017; Neumann, 2019; Anagnost 2013). However, precisely how meaning and belief concerning these birds may have been lost, challenged or (re)invented remains to be explored. In this contribution, we have used the methods and vision of netnography to explor…

Individual narratives point out the intricate meeting points between different shamanic traditions and the importance of continuous innova…

    Open Access•Carolina Ivanescu•BOOK•Islam and Secular Citizenship in…•2016

The past several years have seen many examples of friction between secular European societies and religious migrant communities within them. This study combines ethnographic work in three countries (The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and France) with a new theoretical frame (regimes of secularity). Its mission is to contribute to an understanding of minority identity construction in secular societies. In addition to engaging with academic liter…
