New insights into the uplifted Roman harbour at Mavra Litharia (N Peloponnese, Greece) in the geodynamic context of the southern margin of the Corinth Gulf
Sea level and global ice volumes from the Last Glacial Maximum to the Holocene
Significance Several areas of earth science require knowledge of the fluctuations in sea level and ice volume through glacial cycles. These include understanding past ice sheets and providing boundary conditions for paleoclimate models, calibrating marine-sediment isotopic records, and providing the background signal for evaluating anthropogenic contributions to sea level. From ∼1,000 observations of sea level, allowing for isostatic and tectonic…

Understanding global sea levels: Past, present and future
Sea-level change during the Holocene in Sardinia and in the northeastern Adriatic (central Mediterranean Sea) from archaeological and geomorphological data
Coastlines, Submerged Landscapes, and Human Evolution: The Red Sea Basin and the Farasan Islands
We examine some long-standing assumptions about the early use of coastlines and marine resources and their contribution to the pattern of early human dispersal, and focus on the southern Red Sea Basin and the proposed southern corridor of movement between Africa and Arabia across the Bab al-Mandab Straits. We reconstruct relative sea levels in light of isostatic and tectonic effects, and evaluate their paleogeographical impact on the distribution…

Sea-level and deep water temperature changes derived from benthic foraminifera isotopic records
Into and out of the Last Glacial Maximum: Sea-level change during Oxygen Isotope Stages 3 and 2
Sea Level Change Through the Last Glacial Cycle
Sea level change during the Quaternary is primarily a consequence of the cyclic growth and decay of ice sheets, resulting in a complex spatial and temporal pattern. Observations of this variability provide constraints on the timing, rates, and magnitudes of the changes in ice mass during a glacial cycle, as well as more limited information on the distribution of ice between the major ice sheets at any time. Observations of glacially induced sea l…
Shore-line reconstruction around Australia during the Last Glacial Maximum and Late Glacial Stage
Last glacial sea-level change deduced from uplifted coral terraces of Huon Peninsula, Papua New Guinea
Timing of the Last Glacial Maximum from observed sea-level minima
Last Ice Age Millennial Scale Climate Changes Recorded in Huon Peninsula Corals
Uranium series and radiocarbon ages were measured in corals from the uplifted coral terraces of Huon Peninsula (HP), Papua New Guinea, to provide a calibration for the 14 C time scale beyond 30 ka (kilo annum). Improved analytical procedures, and quantitative criteria for sample selection, helped discriminate diagenetically altered samples. The base-line of the calibration curve follows the trend of increasing divergence from calendar ages, as es…
Refining the eustatic sea-level curve since the Last Glacial Maximum using far- and intermediate-field sites
Implications of Late Pleistocene Glaciation of the Tibetan Plateau for Present-Day Uplift Rates and Gravity Anomalies
Minimal and maximal models of Late Pleistocene Glaciation on the Tibetan Plateau are considered. The large ice sheet models indicate that disintegration of the ice sheet could have contributed up to 7 mm/yr of present vertical uplift and 2 mm/yr of horizontal extension. The former value can account for more than 50% of the observed uplift in central Tibet. The peak free-air gravity anomaly arising from the deglaciation would be around −5.4 mGal. …
Sea-level change and shore-line evolution in Aegean Greece since Upper Palaeolithic time
As the glaciation ended, the ice melted and the sea-level rose.' Yes - but it has not been as simple as that, as the Earth has adjusted in several ways to the changing surface-loads it suffers under ice and under weight of water. The important issues are set out in a simple mathematical treatment, and their varied consequences are shown for Greece and especially for the Greek coastal plains and the Greek islands, where the impact on human settlem…
