The Origins of the Corinthian Christ Group: Paul’s Chord of Gods
Grounds the origins of the Corinthian Christ group within local social practice Thoroughly grounds the origins of the Corinthian Christ group within local social practice Expands the scope of inquiry beyond elite members of Paul’s audience to include as many societal levels as are indicated by the variety of available evidence Based on primary sources (literature, inscriptions, material culture, coinage, statuary, reliefs, and architecture) to pr…
The Origins of the Corinthian Christ Group: Paul's Chord of Gods
The Origins of the Christ Movement in Corinth: Paul’s Chord of Gods argues that Paul’s language about his god (father, lord Jesus Christ and pneuma) would have been familiar to Corinthian gentiles as a small group of gods – a chord of gods. Worship of Paul’s chord of gods matches the common religious practice (in Theodore Schatzki’s sense) around the ancient Mediterranean and in Corinth and would have been very familiar to the Corinthians. Gender
Major issues and scholarship in the theoretical approaches to ancient gender are addressed in the first half of this essay. Scholarly approaches stem from the study of gender in classics, since these studies represent the wider and dominant gender norms in the ancient world, but there is a need to adapt them to the study of the Synoptics to account for the geographical differences and nature of the literature in comparison to classical literature…

Interesting questions are …
Jesus's Death as Communal Resurrection in Mark Dornford-May's 2006 Film Son of Man
Instead of trying to recreate the ancient life of Jesus, Mark Dornford-May's film Son of Man depicts many famous scenes from the gospels, reworked to tell the story of Jesus in the fictitious "Kingdom of Judea, Afrika" with the concerns of local and global poverty, violence, and imperialism. Jesus's life turns when he directly challenges the Judean leadership, and his arrest, torture, and death reinterpret the dynamics of power from first century…
Mnemosyne at the Asklepieia
The Afterlife of a Dream and the Ritual System of the Epidaurian Asklepieion
This study looks at the ways that the healing inscriptions at the Epidauran Asklepieion transfer the private experience of a supplicant into the public realm of the life of the sanctuary. This process imbues the individual dream with a potential for influence that can honor the god in unforeseen ways well into the future. The study then examines the role of one god, Mnēmosyne, in the afterlife of the dream in order to gain an appreciation of the …
