Fallow deer in prehistoric Greece, and the analogy between faunal spectra and pollen analyses
The pollen record from an archaeological site provides the environmental background, while the animal bones illuminate its economy. Wild animal bones are also ecological indicators, and faunal spectra can clarify the status of animals whose place in the human economy is uncertain or changing. The status of the fallow deer in prehistoric Greece is explored from this viewpoint
Quantifying preservation and distortion in carbonized seeds; and investigating the history of friké production
Median and Parthian Plant Remains from Tepe Nush-i Jan
Development of agriculture in Europe and the near east
Excavations at a Neolithic Causewayed Enclosure, Orsett, Essex, 1975
The Causewayed Enclosure at Orsett, Essex, was trial trenched in 1975 to determine the state of site preservation and confirm its postulated Neolithic date and site sequence. The enclosure consisted of three incomplete circuits of discontinuous ditch with an associated timber palisade slot lying inside and concentric to the middle ditch. Within the interior was an oval post hole structure of a contemporary date. Quantities of Mildenhall style pot…
The transport of pollen in the bracts of hulled cereals
On the strength of the evidence for prehistoric crop processing activities
Crops and climate in prehistoric Europe
Selected areas of the European and Near Eastern archaeobotanical record are examined in the hope of elucidating the influences of climate, culture, and other factors on prehistoric agriculture. It is concluded that the long‐term effects of climate or environment are usually of little importance in comparison with those of other perturbing influences
