Mass human exposure to rabies in New Hampshire
OBJECTIVES. This study assessed the rabies exposure and treatment that at least 665 persons in Concord, NH, received as a result of one proven rabid pet-store kitten in October 1994. METHODS. All treatment recipients were interviewed by person or phone. RESULTS. The median age of the treatment recipients was 14 years; 58% were female. The Hausa afford excellent illustrative material for this purpose since their society, which lays great stress on status, is neither tribal nor modern but roughly midway between these extremes

The Social Functions and Meaning of Hausa Praise-Singing
Opening ParagraphIn this paper I illustrate an objective method for the determination of the meaning and values of social institutions, using data on the custom of praise-singing (roko) among the Hausa of Northern Nigeria. To direct attention to the method of analysis clearly, I shall present the field-data and their examination separately. I concluding, I shall indicate certain problems which seem to arise from this paper
